Underarm Laser Hair Removal
Throw your hands in the air like you just don’t care! Underarm laser hair removal is THE ticket to smooth, hairless armpits. With tank top season just around the corner, it’s a great way of feeling more confident in your skin.
Laser hair removal is a permanent hair reduction method. It works incredibly well on the underarms since the hair tends to grow thicker and darker than elsewhere on the body.
If you’re interested in laser hair removal from your underarms, you’ve come to the right place. We’ll explain exactly what it’s like to experience underarm hair removal at SEV Laser, so you’ll know if it’s the right service for you.
How Does Underarm Laser Hair Removal Work?
How Does Underarm Laser Hair Removal Work?
Laser hair removal relies on incredible technology that gives long-term results.
The laser’s light is able to penetrate down to the hair follicle, where it can distinguish between the skin and the root of the hair. It damages the follicle itself without harming the surrounding skin, which terminates the follicle’s ability to regrow hair
Does Underarm Laser Hair Removal Hurt?
Does it Hurt
The best way to describe the sensation of laser hair removal is like getting stung by a very small rubber band. It’s not necessarily pleasant, but it’s not too painful. Our machine is equipped with a cool shot setting, so we cool the skin down immediately after “zapping” a spot. Most of our customers find that it’s less painful than waxing. Since it’s so quick, they can handle it without any issues.
How Many Laser Treatments Do I Need for Underarms?
How many Sessions
The exact amount of sessions needed really varies from person to person, but we normally recommend between 6 to 12 sessions. For the laser to effectively inhibit regrowth, it has to hit the hair follicle when it’s at its active stage.
Our hair grows in cycles, and each follicle is on its own schedule. The laser doesn’t work on dormant hair, so by doing hair removal sessions every 4-6 weeks, we can make sure to hit every follicle at the right time, for total smoothness down the line.

What Can I Expect at My First Appointment?
The first laser hair removal appointment is always the most intimidating, so our goal at SEV Laser is to make you as comfortable as possible. From start to finish, underarm laser hair removal only takes a few minutes. We’ll probably spend more time chatting with you than we will actively lasering! Prior to your appointment, we will have you sign a consent form that also details all of the pre-care and contraindications for laser hair removal. We’ll ask you to come in without any deodorant on since it can interfere with the laser. Then, when you come for your appointment, your nurse or laser technician will again confirm that you’re a good candidate for the service. Then, you’ll lie back, and she’ll get started! The underarm treatment area is usually quite self-explanatory. We will ask you to lift up your arm and, using a skin-safe pencil, we will draw a border around the area of hair growth. With that done, we’ll start zapping the skin. Once we finish one side, we’ll move on to the other side, and it’s over before you know it! Following the appointment, we ask that you avoid deodorants, sun exposure, as well as intense exercise and saunas for a couple of days. Other than that, there’s no downtime, and you’ll be able to resume your normal day-to-day life.
How Many Laser Hair Removal Back Sessions Will I Need?
The number of needed sessions really varies from person to person. We usually recommend doing a series of 6 sessions and waiting 4-6 weeks between each appointment. After you finish your first series, you can evaluate to see if another series is needed. That’s why we offer every sixth session for free! You can look at our service menu for back laser hair removal costs based on location. Once you’re happy with your results, you might still want to come in for one or two follow-up sessions per year, to pick up any persistent stragglers. The reason why multiple sessions are necessary (and why it’s so unpredictable) has to do with the hair growth cycle. For the laser to be effective, it has to hit the hair follicle when it’s at the growth stage (this is called the anagen phase). At any given time, only about 20% of your hair follicles are in that stage, so every session will usually reduce hair growth by that amount.
Does Laser Hair Removal Work On Any Skin Type?
Yes! We have both a YAG and an ALEX, which is safe for all skin types.
How Often Should I Have a Laser Hair Removal Session?
Hair grows in cycles, typically every 4-6 weeks depending on the part of the body, however, this will vary with each individual.
Why Laser Hair Removal is the Best for Underarm?
The underarm area tends to respond incredibly well to laser. Because of the color and texture of the hair there, the laser has an easy time pinpointing the follicle, and results tend to be excellent.
Underarm laser hair removal also has some big benefits over other hair removal methods. As anyone who has shaved their underarms knows, it’s really hard to achieve total smoothness. Often, you still end up with a bit of a shadow, or missed spots because of the concave shape of the armpit.
As for waxing, it can be extremely painful, even compared to laser. It also often leads to ingrown hairs, which laser hair removal can actually resolve. You also have to wait for the hair to grow out between appointments, while laser allows you to shave in between. As for cost – a laser hair appointment is only a touch more expensive than a waxing appointment, but the difference is that after full a series of sessions, you’ll have long-lasting results. With waxing, the hair grows back, so it’s a lifelong commitment.
