Neck Laser Hair Removal
Laser hair removal from the neck has become more popular in recent years. It’s a fantastic long-term solution for unwanted hair, whether you’re a woman dealing with unusual growth or a man who is sick and tired of constantly shaving easily-irritated skin. Back-of-the-neck laser hair removal is a great option for those who want a cleaner hairline!
However, the neck is also a sensitive area, so it makes sense if you have some questions. Will it hurt? How long does it take? We’ll answer all of these questions, and more, on this page!
How Does Neck Laser Hair Removal Work?
Fundamentally, laser hair removal works by damaging the hair follicle so it will stop growing hair. The light from the laser machine pinpoints the hair follicles and damages them without touching the surrounding skin, leading to long-term smoothness.
What Can I Expect at My First Appointment?
What Can I Expect at My First Appointment?
When you come in for your first appointment, you’ll probably be surprised by just how quickly it goes by! At SEV Laser, we use the latest technologies, so neck laser hair removal takes just around 5 minutes.
However, please note that your first appointment might be a little longer. Your laser technician or registered nurse will take the time to answer your questions and to give advice for aftercare. They’ll also confirm that you’re a good candidate for laser hair removal. There are some contraindications to keep in mind, so make sure to check them in advance of your appointment.
If you’re a little nervous, don’t be afraid to ask as many questions as you need. At SEV Laser, our goal is to make sure you’re as comfortable as possible during the treatment.
If you’re wearing any makeup or lotions, your technician will also give you a face wipe to remove them. To cover your eyes, she’ll give you a pair of protective goggles, as well.

Your service provider will use a skin-safe pencil to draw quadrants over your neck. This allows them to work methodically and ensure they don’t miss a single hair.
Finally, the laser treatment can begin. Each zap of the laser will sting a little bit, a pain that is comparable to waxing or tweezing. Most of our clients tolerate it well enough, but we can always take a break if needed.
Once we’ve treated the entire neck area, we’ll give you aloe vera to soothe the skin and sunscreen to protect it from the sun. After the treatment, sun protection is one of the most important parts of aftercare!
Which Areas Does It Cover?
We actually offer two different types of neck laser hair removal: front of the neck and back of the neck. Front of the neck laser covers the neck from base to top. It’s the perfect hair removal solution for women dealing with hirsutism or for men who are tired of shaving their necks.
Back of the neck hair removal is more popular with men, who often combine it with back laser hair removal. It helps create a nice border between the hair and the neck, and helps you go longer between visits to the barber.

Why Laser Hair Removal is Best for Neck Hair Removal
The neck is a very sensitive area that is prone to bumps, irritation, and ingrown hairs. The greatest benefit of trying laser hair removal for the neck is that, with time, it can help the skin heal and become incredibly smooth.
There are many other benefits to laser hair removal when compared to other hair removal options. First of all, unlike shaving or waxing, it’s a long-term solution. You’ll never have to double-check for hairs on your neck before leaving the house or constantly scheduling your hair removal sessions. This one-off cost can also save you a significant amount of money if you usually opt for professional waxing.
Finally, while neck laser hair removal is admittedly painful, a single session takes less than 5 minutes. It’s much faster and more tolerable than electrolysis, which is the only other long-lasting hair removal option.
How Many Sessions Does It Take?
Complete hairlessness usually takes 6-12 treatments to achieve. The exact number varies from customer to customer. Normally, we see around a 20% reduction in hair growth after every laser hair removal session. Eventually, with repeated sessions 4-8 weeks apart, our clients achieve total hairlessness. That’s why we offer packages where your sixth hair removal treatment is free.
Your hair follicle moves through a few different phases of growth. Laser is only effective when the follicle is in the anagen phase (i.e. the growth phase). Since hair follicles go through different phases at different times, it takes repeated treatments to effectively impact all of them.
Another thing worth noting is that hormonal fluctuations later in life can also have an impact. You may need to come back for a touch-up in the following years in order to maintain results or to target hair follicles that become active again. Thankfully, one or two touch-ups a year are more than enough to maintain results.
