How Does Leg Laser Hair Removal Work?

How Does Leg Laser Hair Removal Work?

Laser hair removal works by destroying the ability of the hair follicle to grow hair.
It’s a long-lasting hair removal solution, which is why it’s so popular for getting rid of back hair.

Which Areas Does It Target?

Areas it Cover

At SEV Laser, our laser hair removal legs services are split into two options: half legs and full legs. A full leg service removes hair from top to bottom, for total smoothness. When clients come in for half legs, we treat the area from right below the knees downwards, which is where hair tends to grow the thickest.

How Many Sessions Does It Take for Laser Hair Removal on Legs?

How it Works

Most of our clients need between 6 to 12 sessions to achieve totally hairless legs, although some may be happy with less and others may need more. The reason why multiple sessions are needed is that lasers can only be effective when your hair is at the growth phase of its cycle.

Only about 20% of your hair is in its growth phase at any given time, which is why multiple sessions are needed to achieve total smoothness.

Once you’re happy with the results, you can stop coming in for regular sessions, although you may still want to come back for a yearly touch-up.

What Can I Expect at My First Appointment?

Arrow

Laser hair removal is a lot less intimidating when you know what to expect. When you come in, the nurse or laser technician will first go with you over the basics of laser hair removal and make sure you’re a good candidate for it. She’ll answer all of your questions, and put you at ease if you’re a little nervous. Then, once you’re ready, you can get changed if necessary. Before she starts the hair removal process, your nurse or technician will use a skin-safe pencil to divide the treatment area into quadrants. This allows her to work methodically and guarantees she doesn't miss a single spot. When the laser comes in contact with your follicles, you’ll feel a slight sting. Compared to other areas, leg laser hair removal is usually not particularly painful. Most of our patients find it just slightly uncomfortable, although tolerance levels can vary. If it hurts, let your nurse know, since you can always take a break. Usually, covering the entire leg takes half an hour at most, while treating just the lower half of the legs takes around 15-20 minutes. You can be in and out during your lunch hour since there’s no downtime afterward! You’ll need to protect your legs from the sun, but otherwise, you’ll be ready to go back to life as normal.

How Many Laser Hair Removal Back Sessions Will I Need?

The number of needed sessions really varies from person to person. We usually recommend doing a series of 6 sessions and waiting 4-6 weeks between each appointment. After you finish your first series, you can evaluate to see if another series is needed. That’s why we offer every sixth session for free! You can look at our service menu for back laser hair removal costs based on location. Once you’re happy with your results, you might still want to come in for one or two follow-up sessions per year, to pick up any persistent stragglers. The reason why multiple sessions are necessary (and why it’s so unpredictable) has to do with the hair growth cycle. For the laser to be effective, it has to hit the hair follicle when it’s at the growth stage (this is called the anagen phase). At any given time, only about 20% of your hair follicles are in that stage, so every session will usually reduce hair growth by that amount.

Why Laser Hair Removal is the Best for Legs

The legs are one of the most troublesome areas when it comes to hair removal. For most women, it’s the largest area from which they remove hair. It’s easy to miss spots or end up with irritation and bumps when shaving or waxing yoursel, while the cost of professional waxing can really add up.

Laser hair removal solves a lot of these common issues. It’s a one-off cost that saves you the hassle of hair removal for the rest of your life. Without repeated shaving, epilating, or waxing, your skin will be able to heal without irritation. It’s also a fantastic solution for anyone who’s prone to ingrown hairs since laser hair removal prevents the regrowth that leads to those bumps.

It does take multiple sessions before you can be totally hair-free, so it’s best to start early. So if you’d like to rock smooth legs at all times, contact us today to book your appointment.
